What are you reading/cooking/watching/listening to today, Wednesday, September 7th?
Right now, we are getting ready to go back to Maine for a few weeks — we were just up there at the beginning of August, when I did a day-long event and then had a conversation with my dear friend Katherine May at Barnswallow Books in Rockport; this trip is our annual vacation — which means: finishing work, furtively hauling out suitcases so as not to freak out Arthur, Charlotte, and Pip (the cats), packing the knife roll (yes, we travel with a knife roll), printing out my next manuscript, deciding what books to take, and wondering whether three Le Creuset pots is two too many. We’ve been doing this now for twenty-two years, and for twenty-two years, that question remains: to schlep or not to schlep. Mostly, we schlep.
Here are the things I’m loving this week:
1- Serena Williams: I love her every week, and her retirement from tennis after 23 MAJOR TITLES is (for sure) not something I’m loving because watching her for so many years has been an absolute gift. I am revisiting her remarkable matches over on YouTube, and loving this essay about her by the great Claudia Rankine.
