What are you reading/cooking/watching/listening to today, Thursday June 16th?

  1. I’ve been engrossed with the work of the late Barry Lopez, main-lining the essays in his new, posthumously published book, Embrace Fearlessly the Burning World. When I do a deep dive, it’s really deep and bordering on the obsessive, and after I finish reading this, I will go back and read his great 1986 Arctic Dreams, and everything else I can find of his.

  2. I will write about this at length in another post, but I’ve gone down the rabbit hole with what is arguably the greatest piece of food writing ever crafted: the introduction to the late Judy Rodgers’ The Zuni Cafe Cookbook, which is as close to being a foundational treatise about how we might think about the act of communion that binds us to each other as you will ever read.
