This fellow podcast nerd 🤓 thanks you for your curated list. I think I could listen to Krista Tippett talk to Kermit the frog and walk away feeling more at peace. She is a gift to my ears and heart.
Hmmmm, says this straight woman. That’s a sad state of affairs—the orgasm thing and all. I, in the past (I’ve been single for a very long time now, but that’s a story for a different day), did not have an issue in that department, THANK GOODNESS, but the statistic does not surprise me at this point in my life (I am a few months away from 60) as I have heard stories from other women my age complaining about their male partners, husbands, etc. not knowing how to get “from A to Z” with much accuracy and the sheer exasperation of it all. Rather than cause an issue at that point, they simply succumb to the old adage, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. So there’s always that!
OMG this list. Thank you for all the great podcast recs and for introducing me to Nowness It's amazing. And, just love your whole newsletter... in fact, I'm going to add your newsletter to my next newsletter list. (Something that only makes perfect sense in Substackland.) ;)
Well, here's the thing. Being a man, I only really have access to the, uh.... equipment, what, thirty, forty-five minutes a week? How am I expected to have the same expertise as people who own this equipment, and have access to it twenty-four hours a day, their entire lives?
You gave me two gifts with this post. Laing was in my cart since pub date. I was holding off on spending. But then there is you with the Guardian piece (me a former abuser of alcohol) and the book recommendation so strong that I pushed "purchase."
Then introduction to "Nowness" where I found a new acquaintance - Glenis Redmond - whose poetry is so piercing I bought three copies of her collection "The Listening Skin" for friends, having read on an Amtrak ride ensconced in tears.
Thank you for this post. What treats you have here.
Oh, I’m so glad that you bought Olivia’s book — it’s wonderful as is all of her other writing. And I’m happy that you found Nowness: it’s an absolute treat — I’ve found some incredible short films there. Enjoy, and have a good weekend.
That is such a lovely photo of you
Thank you 🙏🏻😘 I loathe the camera.
I love Olivia Laing’s work, and new rabbit holes for me to disappear down here too, thank you. Have you read Crudo?

The photo of you at Stissing House is beautful! Jura and I loved our dinner there in May. So delicious!
Sigita! 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

Who remembers the "G spot?"
Love love this list. Particularly love the Marie Howe conversation w/Krista Tippett. And I’m pulling out the Olivia Lang! 🥳💥🎈
Thanks for the book recommendation - The Garden Against Time just moved to the top of my pile.

Thanks Elissa,
Lovely, informative list.
I was gifted Every Body last year and fell in love with Olivia Laing, too. I just started The Lonely City.

Roadmap?
Has it ever occurred to you to actually ask the owner of said "equipment"?
Lol...it is just a Seinfeld allusion

So much lovely food for mind & body here, Elissa--thank you!
A lot to check out, which I have already started doing. It will keep me busy for quite awhile. What a rich sharing. Thank you.
Wonderful. The Garden Against Time is so absorbing and love that video of the house and garden. And a gorgeous recipe too :)
