Want to brag a bit more; four of our state parks are Internationally Designated Dark Sky parks. The Milky Way, lighting up the night skies, is capable of humbling even a Texan.
I’d like to add to your Texas list: Paula Lambert and The Mozzarella Company, Dallas; Paul Harral and The Fort Worth Star-Telegram; The Sande Project (Toni Tipton Martin), Austin.
So so many great things on this list. Gulf coast highway, Emmy Lou and willie is a fave! Hayes Carll! Really fun to read this today Elissa - thanks for the dispatch.
Who knew? My wiseacer husband always says, "Who is "Who?" About Texas and migas? Been there, years ago, Dallas-Fort Worth to see family and for a clinical rotation at Parkland. Migas are actually served in some restaurants where we live in Wyoming, where we also have Stetsons (way too many of them on people who buy them as souvenirs).
Another Texas treasure: the western swing band Asleep at the Wheel. I'm pretty rock 'n' roll and would never have heard them but for a colleague playing their album "Ride with Bob" at work. Very highly recommend. Glad you're having an awesome experience there this month.
I LOVE Asleep at the Wheel, and my mistake for not including them. Ray Benson! But they weren't formed in TX I don't think -- Also, I neglected to add Kinky Friedman, Bob Wills, Dan Hicks, and so many more that it's almost impossible to count......
When you mentioned that you would be in Texas--Corsicana--my first thought was how could I meet you here? I’e been following you for a LONG time--since before the publication of Poor Man’s Feast and would love to know you personally! But, of course, that can’t happen. I love your list of good things about Texas and that Naomi is at the top--she is such LOVELY lady! I hope your time in Corsicana Is positive and you leave with an appreciation of Texas. I know Maine--my sister married a ‘Mainer’ and I got to know and love Maine through her--so we can never compare, but hope it is a positive experience for you. Fondly.
Oh, thank you so much! It's so kind of you to say--- If I had more time here (I'm in residency, finishing my next book!) I'd want to find a way. Where are you? Many thanks again -- Best to you. E
I live in San Antonio, along with Naomi. We would both love to host a visit with you. I speak for her but feel certain she would agree! Is there any possibility? I would drive to see you there in Corsicana if that made a visit possible.

That's amazing!

Absolutely! My bad -- I think that Toni is a national treasure --

They formed in the DC area, but are now based in Austin. Why I thought of them. Yes, so many more, indeed.
Found this very interesting. Loved hearing about Texas. Have often wondered about this big state. You explained everything beautifully.
