I definitely am salivating for a roto-tiller. Interesting about plunging the vegetables into cold water.
I got super hungry reading this because you have such a wonderful way with words and telling a story that hits me on different levels. Level one: gotta try that recipe and the cold water dunking
Level two: nourishment, your wonderful father, dirty knees, muddy legs like when a child = vivid.
Level three: a godliness or rather something holy about the way you write about cooking and food.
Hi Elissa, sorry to post here again but after finally navigating the substack app I’ve realised there IS extra content for paid subscribers. I have transferred my AOL subscriber email to my Gmail so I’m hoping I will get your paid subscriber content straight to my inbox now, rather than having to look in the Substack app and sign in each time with a subscriber link, would this be possible? As I say, I love your writing and I want to offer support so I’m happy to continue subscribing rather than get a refund for now. Wishing you all the best, Karen
Hi Karen! As a paid subscriber to Poor Man’s Feast, you should be getting all content—paid and free— at the email you signed up with. If you’re not, check your spam filter, but it sounds like you’re ok now. There’s a little lock icon next to the posts that are paid. My other newsletter (at ElissaAltman.com) is a completely different one, and not a Substack. You can only subscribe to my Substack through Substack. Also, there is a function that enables readers to reach me via email— Thank you! Elissa
Brilliant, thank you Elissa! And sorry for being so tech illiterate, I think I’m good now and look forward to reading more of your wise and reflective words 😊
Hi Elissa, I’m so sorry to comment here but I’ve searched Substack and can’t find another way of contacting you. I subscribed recently for $60 a year which is a real financial stretch right now but I love your writing I wanted to support you. However I don’t even get anything sent to my subscriber email just your free newsletter which I have subscribed to via my other Gmail account (I get nothing emailed to me via my subscriber email aol! ) Perhaps I have done something wrong? Is there different content for a paid subscriber? I obviously want to support you because I love your work but as another struggling writer this is a real stretch for me financially right now and if the free content is exactly the same would it be possible just to get a refund and keep as a free subscriber for now until things are a bit less tight financially? Thank you so much, please do email me separately if that’s easier, I assume this won’t be posted until you see it for moderation and again apologies for posting on the subscriber thread. Many thanks , Karen
Hi Karen, Please see my reply to your next comment! Paid subscribers receive all content in full, which includes 4 recipes per month, a midweek roundup, etc; free subscribers receive free content, and/or posts that are partial. They aren’t the same. You have to be logged in to Substack to see paid content. Also do note that if you subscribed to ElissaAltman.com, that is not a Substack—it’s a totally different publication. Thanks! Elissa
Such a literary masterpiece I believe. Have enjoyed reading this so much. We learn so much about life and vegetables. Thank you so very much, Elissa, you certainly tell it like it is.

Seriously.
